New Leader Information

Steps For New Leaders

Congratulations and welcome to Girl Scouts! Thank you for volunteering to help build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

STEP 1* Register as an adult Girl Scout member
Complete the 2008-2009 Adult Registration form, including the volunteer Application on the back side of the forms, along with $10 membership fee, to your service unit registrar Lisa Thompson to register your troop and to pick up your new troop Welcome Kit. An online volunteer background check needs to be completed by going to www.girlscoutsrv.org.

Step 2* Complete GSUSA's Online Volunteer Orientation
Complete Girl Scouts of the USA'a (GSUSA'S) online Volunteer Orientation, which is designed to introduce new volunteers to Girl Scouting. To Access online Volunteer Orientation, log onto http://training.girlscouts.org/,  password:discover.  An official appointment letter will be sent after the adult registration form and membership fee have been recieved, and the background check and online orientation have been completed and accepted. 

STEP 3* Complete Fast Start Meeting
A fast Start Coach from your service unit will contact you to provide detailed information on getting started with you troop and connecting with other Girl Scout volunteers in your area. Also your Fast Start Coach will be able to answer your specific questions.

STEP 4* Attend Leader Meetings (1per month)
Your troop is part of the Northern Lights Service Unit. Monthly leader mmetings provide program ideas, events, resources, ect, for your troop and creates an opportunity for you to meet other leaders to exchanges helpful tips. Please try to have a represenative from  your troop attend. 

STEP 5* Complete Leadership Essentials
As a newly appointed leader, you have 4 months to complete the required Leadership Essentials training which shows you how to work with the GSUSA Journey books and apply girl-led, learning by doing, and cooperative learning leadership processes with your troop.To sign up for this training and to check out additional learning opportunities visit www.girlscoutsrv.org
